65th WFUWO Anniversary and the 50th Anniversary of the Journal “Ukrainian Woman in the World”
In accordance with our notification the 65th anniversary celebration of the Federation did not take place on October 20. As deemed by the executive, the recognition will take place in the coming year. The new date will be announced as soon as they are in place.
Parliamentary Hearings in Ukraine
On October 16, 2013, a parliamentary hearing took place in Kyiv on the subject of “Protecting Equal Rights and Opportunities for Men and Women: Problems and Methods for Resolving These”. The World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations was invited by the Parliament of Ukraine to participate in this hearing. Oleksandra Faryma, WFUWO’s Ukrainian secretary represented our Federation at the hearing. Thank you is extended to the president of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada for responding to our request for proposals regarding the protection of equal rights and opportunities for men and women.

The World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations stresses the importance of lobbying governments in countries where our member organizations are located, as we can only meet our goals when we are united and continue to aggressively pursue our mandate. With a united effort we can meet our goals and make a difference in assuring the equality of women and defending their position in society. That is why it is important to respond to our request for action in a timely manner.
Annual WFUWO Meeting
The annual meeting took place August 18-19, 2013 at the Lviv Polytechnical Institute. These two full days passed very quickly with interesting and productive discussions. Twenty-five delegates and guests form twelve member organizations participated in the annual meeting. Thirty guests from Ukraine joined the delegates to familiarize themselves with the WFUWO activities and that of its member organizations. After the annual meeting, guests from Ukraine shared their thoughts and impressions. (see details in the attached articles).
Dear Presidents and Member Organizations. Thank you for participating in the annual WFUWO meeting. Your reports were extremely interesting reports and it was important to learn more about the various activities of your organizations. It is with great pleasure that we invite you and your delegates to take part in the 2014 annual meeting which will take place in France at the invitation of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of France.
Please send a copy of your organization’s report and pictures to our office as soon as possible so that we can publish them in our next issue of Ukrainian Women in the World. We wish you much success in all your endeavours.
10th Congress of the World Congress of Ukrainians and the International Institute of Education and Culture
The President of the WFUWO welcomed the participants of the 10 Congress of the World Congress of Ukrainians during the official opening in Solomia Krushelnytska Lviv Opera and Ballet Theatre. She also welcomed the participants of the Fourth International Conference of the International Institute of Education and Culture. (See the documents on face book.)
Orysia Sushko, President of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations was presented with a memorial coin of King Danylo of Halych.
On the occasion of the 22 anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence and the Day of the Flag, August 23, 2013, an official ceremony took place at Lviv City Hall during which there was a presentation of a memorial coin of KIng Danylo of Halych.
During the ceremony Andrij Sadowyj, the mayor of Lviv, presented Orysia Sushko, President of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations the memorial coin.
The WFUWO President visits the city of Kolomyja.
After the annual meeting, the WFUWO president was invited to the city of Kolomyja by the local Ukrainian Women’s Association. This was the first such visit by a WFUWO president.
Orysia Sushko, WFUWO President, Olya Danylak, member of the constitution committee and delegate from the League of Ukrainian Catholic Women of Canada and Oksana Sushko, a delegate from the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada placed a wreath at the monument of Olena Kysilewska and later visited the office of the local Ukrainian Women’s Association. The guests had an opportunity to meet local members and learn about their various programs. As well, the women visited the Pysanka Museum. President Sushko and delegates are deeply grateful for the warm welcome and hospitality shown by the Kolomyja Branch. (An interview with Orysia Sushko was published in the local newspaper, as well she was interviewed by the local TV station.)
A Visit to the City of Boreslaw.
The Ukrainian Women’s Association of Boreslaw invited Oleksandra Faryma,the WFUWO secretary, to visit their famous city of Boreslaw. The Boreslaw Branch of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Ukraine came into existence in 1990. Its first president was Irene Senyk, proclaimed as one of the top one hundred heroines of the world during a WFUWO Convention in Rochester, New York. In 2004, Anastasia Zakydalska became president and in 2012, Ludmila Pikhotska. During the past year, members of the branch organized many events which were appreciated by the community in Boreslaw. The women exchanged their ideas and discussed their detailed plans for the future.
The United Nations-Report to the Committee of the Family
The Federation submitted its five year report to the United Nations Committee of the Family in August, 2013. The report outlined the initiates and events that have been taken to protect and strengthen the family unit. It included a brief description of the events of each member organization during the last five years.
80th Anniversary of the Holodomor-Famine, Genocide
The commemoration of the Holodomor in Ukraine is fast approaching. It is important to respect the memory of the innocent victims of this horrific crime and to spread the knowledge of this crime to the world. We are calling upon our member organizations to organize events in your local areas to commemorate this anniversary. The World Congress of Ukrainians has developed plans to commemorate this anniversary. For further information see their webpage.
